Learn elements of IMGE’s signature style deconstructing bharatanatyam, Mayurbhanj Chhau, hip hop, house to create a new holistic approach to storytelling. No matter what style or skill level you come from, this rare immersive evening will bring you the power of global storytelling.

This 2 hour class will be followed by an informal performance of Ishita’s solo repertoire, Shishya.

Then exchange in a post-show cypher through the end of the night.

Class is open to movers from all backgrounds who are interested in finding community with like-minded explorers.

ABOUT ISHITA

Ishita Mili is a Bengali-American director, choreographer, educator, and iconoclast. She has a extensive dance training in Mayurbhanj chhau, hip hop, bharatanatyam, and contemporary dance. She founded IMGE (“image”) as an American dance company that unravels cultural roots to thread together global stories with artists of diverse backgrounds. IMGE’s holistic movement vocabulary encompasses dynamic imagery, mudra storytelling, and percussive footwork to confront social and cultural constructs. Ishita’s work has reached inter/national stages (New Victory Theater, Lincoln Center, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival), commercial campaigns (NBCuniversal, IndoWarehouse), and theater (Broadway Bares, Asolo Rep’s “Hair”). Ishita was awarded Artist of Exceptional Merit by the Asian American Arts Alliance and is a reoccurring guest teacher at Princeton University. IMGE was most recently awarded a CUNY Tribeca production residency for their original show "(no)man" and Ishita was selected in into the LabWorks '24-'25 cohort at New Victory Theater. www.imgedance.com
