From the Hindu epic Ramayana, Ravana is a widely known figure in mythology as the king of all demons. The popular depiction of Ravana is of a terrible monster, but in birthplace of Sri Lanka, he is viewed as a hero, scholar, and leader. IMGE examines the complexity of Ravana’s character through Urban Indian movement vocabulary and incorporates rhythmic footwork and theater to create an immersive experience. This work chronicles the gathering of Ravana’s army, a court dance by devadasis, & Ravana’s pledge to protect his kingdom.
